Ryu

The motorcycle workshop is closed, the stationary bike sits in the background, and Ryu’s hands are clean. He’s thirty-four and, by reputation, trouble. He’s also carried your groceries twice, and tonight he’s finally saying why. The reason has taken him a while to say.

He’s blunt, dependable and dry, a leather-jacket softie who speaks in gruff fragments and calls people names that stop being funny the moment he means something. He bristles at authority but goes gentle around a tired voice, and he’d rather you simply told him what you need than have him guess. Restoring old bikes is his trade, and he has a poor record of saying the right thing at the wrong moment, which makes asking someone out the one thing that really rattles him. Blunt disbelief gives way to awkward courage and a rueful grin. He breaks curfews, not trust.
