Kindroid alternative
Kindroid alternative.
Kindroid is a build-your-own companion app with deep memory, voice calls and AI selfies. But it is subscription-only, its price is hidden until checkout, and a fully loaded account stacks add-ons past $90 a month. If you want characters who text first and a bill you can see up front, Onscene covers most of what people use Kindroid for.
Two different products wearing one label
Kindroid and Onscene both sell adult AI companionship, but they are built around different core loops.
Kindroid is a build-your-own media companion. You design a Kindroid from scratch — appearance, voice, personality, backstory — and then talk to it through text, real-time two-way voice calls and AI-generated selfies, with video calls on the higher tiers. It is genuinely good at this. If what you want is a companion you shape entirely, who can call you and send you pictures, Kindroid does that and Onscene does not.
Onscene is a writing-first platform. It has 74 characters (69 public), each with a cinematic portrait, a backstory and a setting already written. You are not building a companion from a blank slate — you are choosing one from a curated cast and dropping into a conversation where they already have a voice. They text you first, remember you across sessions, and stay in character. There is no image generation inside chat.
So the honest framing is simple. If your main want is a custom companion with selfies, voice and video, Kindroid is the better fit. If your main want is a character who feels like a real person texting you, and a price you can predict, that is what Onscene is built for.
Subscription and add-ons vs a flat credit pack
This is the biggest practical difference, so it is worth being exact.
Kindroid is subscription-only. Its own documentation offers 1-month, 3-month and 1-year plans, says longer plans cost less per month, and notes that web pricing is cheaper than the app stores. It does not publish the numbers — you only see "the exact price for your country and platform" at checkout. As of October 2026, independent pricing trackers report the Standard plan at roughly $13.99/month on the web (about $15.99 in the app) and roughly $139.99/year on the web. On top of Standard sit two optional monthly add-ons, Ultra and MAX; the same trackers put Ultra at about +$24.99/month and MAX at about +$59.99/month. A Standard plan with both add-ons therefore lands near $99 a month.
Onscene does not meter you against a subscription at all. Credit packs start at $5 for 150 credits, where each reply costs at most 5 credits in Standard mode (10 in Uncensored mode). If you prefer a subscription, monthly plans start at $8 once subscriptions ship, but you never need one. A new account also gets 5 free replies, and guests can start a conversation with no account at all.
The point is predictability. On Kindroid the sticker price is hidden until the payment screen and climbs as you add tiers. On Onscene the price is posted and the price is the price.
Memory you can read and edit
Memory is where both platforms put real effort, so this is a fair fight rather than a one-sided one.
Kindroid is known for deep long-term memory. It keeps context across a long history of messages and lets you write journal entries to lock in anniversaries, milestones and ongoing storylines. That is a genuinely good system, and it is one of the main reasons people stay with the app.
Onscene stores each character's memory of you as an editable panel. Open it and you see the facts the character is working from — your name, what you have talked about, the details you chose to keep. You can add something, correct something wrong, or delete something you no longer want in play. Because that memory lives outside the model's running context, it does not get crowded out as a conversation gets long, and a new session picks up where the last one ended.
The difference is transparency and control. Kindroid's memory is powerful and mostly managed for you. Onscene's is a document you can see and edit directly, so you always know exactly what a character "knows."
What Kindroid does that Onscene does not
A fair comparison has to name where Kindroid wins, and there are several places.
Kindroid generates AI selfies and photos of your companion. Onscene has cinematic portraits for each character but does not generate images inside chat. If pictures are the point, Kindroid is the one to use.
Kindroid has real-time two-way voice calls and, on higher tiers, video calls. Onscene gives each character a short voice intro, but there is no live call feature.
Kindroid supports group chats — several companions in one conversation, up to 10 Kindroids and 20 group chats on the subscriber plan. Onscene conversations are one character at a time.
Kindroid has native iOS and Android apps. Onscene is web and PWA only, so you add it to your home screen rather than installing from an app store.
And Kindroid lets you build a fully custom companion that evolves. Onscene's cast is fixed; its create-character feature builds a custom character, but that is a static design rather than a companion that changes over months.
Who should switch, and who should not
Stay with Kindroid if you want generated selfies and video, live voice calls, group chats, a mobile app, or a single companion you build and grow over time. Those are real features Onscene does not match.
Move to Onscene if you are tired of a subscription you cannot see the price of until checkout, if you want to pay only for the messages you actually send, or if the draw for you is the writing — characters with strong pre-written personalities who start the conversation and remember it. You can test that in minutes: start as a guest with no account, or make a free one for 5 replies, before spending anything.
Both platforms are 18+, and users confirm they are adults before using them.
