  3. Copy the name you like, or press Make a character to start a draft with that name already filled in.

Questions

How do I pick a good character name?
Say it out loud in the middle of a sentence. A good name is easy to read, hard to confuse with other names in the story, and hints at the world without explaining it.
Are the meanings accurate?
Meanings are only shown where the first name has a well-documented origin. Invented names, surnames and anything uncertain are left without one. Japanese meanings depend on the characters used, so treat them as the common reading.
Can I use these names in my own story or on a chat site?
Yes. They're ordinary names and original combinations, free to use in fiction, role-play, game characters and AI chat bots. Check that a full name doesn't match a real, well-known person before publishing.
What does Make a character do?
It opens the Onscene character studio with the name and a matching genre filled in. You write the rest, give them a face, and they text you first. Your pick is held in your browser tab only, for a few minutes.
